Deborah Gillum received her ADN from Anderson University (Anderson, IN) in 1988, her BSN from Ball State University (Muncie, IN) in 1992 and her MSN from Indiana University (Indianapolis, IN) in 1994. She completed her PhD in nursing from Rush University in 2010. Her research focused on cardiovascular disease in the Amish and her dissertation was titled "Cardiovascular Knowledge, Beliefs, and Healthcare Practices of the Amish in Northern Indiana." She has been employed in the hospital setting in medical–surgical and cardiovascular nursing. She is certified as an Adult and Family Nurse Practitioner and has practiced in both Indiana and Arizona.
She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau, Coalition of Advanced Practice Nurses in Indiana, American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, Midwest Nursing Research Society, Rural Health Nurses Organization and ISNA/ANA.
She and her husband have 2 children and are busy keeping up with all of their activities. They are very involved members of Wawasee Lakeside Chapel in Syracuse. Deborah also is a member of the Board of Directors for a local child care facility and a Master Gardener.
Deborah currently teaches in the BSN, RN–BSN completion and MSN programs.
