Study Abroad Programs

Jamaica Program

Living in Jamaica is a very eye opening experience. You will see beautiful scenery just as expected for a Caribbean island. When you look out the windows of your dorm you are surrounded by beautiful mountains on three sides and the Caribbean ocean on the fourth. Palm trees greet you every day right outside the front steps of your dorm. While traveling throughout the country winding up and down through the mountains, and ending at the shores of white sandy beaches, you may need to pinch yourself as you stare in awe at the beauty of God's handiwork on this small unique island.

Jamaica meets the stereo-typical view of the No Problem Man lifestyle. A semester abroad can create lasting friendships. Interact and build relationships with the locals, and learn from their culture. They may impact your life deeply, and you may impact theirs. Enjoy the opportunity to grow emotionally and spiritually during your time in the Caribbean. Be outgoing during your stay and have fun!

During your semester abroad in Jamaica, you will have opportunities to travel all over the country. With a country slightly smaller than Connecticut, it is possible to experience all four sides. Feel free to travel to the far western coast to do some cliff jumping, or head out to sea and do some snorkeling in the Caribbean's coral reef. Or, you can choose to head up north to climb waterfalls. The possibilities are endless, so feel free to be adventurous!

While living in Jamaica you will stay at the Jamaican Theological Seminary. Here, along with other classmates you will be living in the dorm, whether in the apartments on the bottom floor or the dorm rooms on second and third floors. Kitchen utensils and furniture are already provided.

You will be a student at the Theological Seminary and take classes on a daily basis. The schedule is different with each individual class, some only meet once or twice a week for two or three hour periods. The course work load will be similar to or slightly less than Bethel's but it greatly depends on each individual class.

How and when to apply? What are the procedures? What classes to take in JTS? What's food like there? What is the dress code?
