Pacific Rim Program
What do kiwis, kangaroos, and pandas have in common? You will visit their homelands on this trip! In a three-month period of time, you will explore different cultures: from the land where “Lord of the Rings” was filmed (New Zealand), to the land of “Crocodile Dundee” (Australia) and to the Forbidden City (China) The Pacific Rim Program was first offered for the spring of 2004 and instantly became one of the most popular programs at Bethel.
Students will leave the first week of January, and arrive in Auckland, the largest city in New Zealand, in time to enjoy summer down under. Students will live on the campus of Bible College of New Zealand (which is the leading theological institution of the nation). You will stay in New Zealand for 5 weeks, traveling in between study times to a wide range of places including volcanoes and beaches, then leaving for Sydney, Australia. The diversity continues as you experience the buzz of Sydney and the quiet of the bush. You will spend four relaxing days in Pittwater, close to nature and wallabies!
During the six weeks in China, students will live and study Chinese language in Beijing, the capital city of the country. You will visit the Great Wall, the Summer Palace, and the Forbidden City in the Beijing area, and you will also have opportunity to visit Xi'an—a historical city further west—home of the famous Ming Tombs and the Terra Cotta Warriors.
