Assistant Director of Student Media Cindy Lynn Sawyer received her degree in professional writing and her BA in General Studies (concentrations in communication and journalism) from Bethel College. Since June 2000, Sawyer has served as an adviser in the area of student media for the college, first as director of student publications, and now as assistant director of student media. In this position she teaches, advises and oversees the production of both the collegiate newspaper and yearbook and helps in other areas related to student media.

Adding to her credentials, the Indiana Collegiate Press Association and the American Christian Collegiate Media have awarded the student publications various awards throughout the years, based on content, design, theme development and ability to meet deadlines. The 2007 Helm yearbook was accepted into the “Ideas that Fly,” a hardback resource book distributed to schools, students and yearbook advisers nation-wide.

As a freelance marketing strategist, Sawyer launched the Happily Ever After Children’s Literature Festival, a semi-annual event created to unite the community with local children’s authors and to encourage children to write. She has also coordinated other events, such as the STAND Women’s Self-Defense event and neighborhood-wide open houses for featured real estate.  Other events she helped market and organize include the Write2Ignite! Christian writer’s conference, Bethel College Christian Writers Workshop, Student Media Banquet and Student Media Orientation and Workshops.

Sawyer freelance writes for local, national publications and online sources. Her work has appeared in Clubhouse, Single-Parent Family, IN Michiana, Inside Granger and She is also a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators and Bethel’s Writers Accountability Network.
