With a rather eclectic educational and professional background, Elizabeth McLaughlin has a B.S. in English and Speech Communication from Taylor University, a Master of Ministries from Bethel College, and PhD in Communication Studies from Regent University. McLaughlin has a broad background in advertising and public relations serving in several local not-for-profits and local agencies as public relations director, account executive and copywriter. She was an owner and partner in a local advertising agency for five years. She is married to Donald McLaughlin, and they have two daughters, Kaitlin and Holly and one Lutheran cat.
McLaughlin teaches various courses in communication including composition, speech, interpersonal, mass media, and professional writing, as well as upper level courses the public relations concentration. Courses in PR writing, research, and strategy and implementation include opportunities for applying key principles to real cases.
Formerly, she served Bethel College as director of the writing center. McLaughlin encourages students to find their voice through academic and personal writing to express their unique call as persons created in the image of God. Her research interests include: faith and gender, C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien; visual rhetoric; women and quiltmaking as expressions of religious faith; spirituality and popular culture.
Other personal interests include: recreational fencing, sword collecting, reading most everything, singing tenor in the Clay United Methodist Church choir, mild exercise and mime.
