Thomas J. La Fountain is assistant professor of criminal at Bethel College. Immediately prior to coming to Bethel he was a Deputy Prosecutor for St. Joseph County Indiana. During his time with the Prosecutor’s office, he worked in the Major Crimes Unit prosecuting felony cases ranging from thefts to murders. Later he was part of the Special Victim’s Unit of the Prosecutor’s office handling cases involving domestic violence and child abuse. He has also served as a Public Defender as well as having his own private practice where he concentrated on Criminal Law.

Mr. La Fountain attended the University of Michigan where he received a B.A. degree in Political Science in 1984. He then received his Juris Doctorate from the Valparaiso School of Law in 1987. He is currently a licensed to practice law in the state of Indiana, and the Federal District Courts for both the Northern and Southern Districts of Indiana.

Mr. La Fountain is blessed with a wonderfully understanding wife , Jill and two sons, Ian and Nicholas. In additional the family includes two greyhounds, a rat and one gecko lizard. The La Fountains are members of St. Joseph Catholic church. They are also ardent supporters of the local charter school which both boys attend. In his free time, Mr. La Fountain reads biographies and historical novels. He is also a fan (in the full sense of the word) of Michigan football.
