Dr. Karon Schwartz, Ph.D., RN, is the Graduate Nursing Program Director. Dr. Schwartz received her Bachelor of Nursing from Goshen College, and her Master of Science in Nursing Administration and Adult Medical – Surgical Nursing from Andrews University. She received her Ph.D. from Wayne State University. Her research interest is “Breast cancer: health beliefs, values and practices of Amish women." She participated in breast cancer research in Kenya, Africa with a research team from Wayne State University. She has a teaching career of 15 years in staff development, community colleges, and baccalaureate programs. She has been active in curriculum and program development and evaluation at each of these levels of education. She works in consulting in coremeasures and medical statistics. She serves on the Research and Practice committees, and Pathway Development committee and has been pivotal in developing patient education resource booklets for patients in a small rural hospital in Michigan. She is active in community service, attending to the needs of the Amish in her community as needed, and teaches classes in health care topics to church and community groups. She is committed to student outcomes of critical thinking, effective communication, nursing process, and incorporating Christian principles in the academic and professional demeanor of our students.
