The Bethel College School of Nursing pinned one hundred sixteen graduates during a ceremony held on May 4, 2013 in the Everest-Rohrer Auditorium. A slide show presentation created by Chelsea Thompson and musical arrangements by pianist Vicky Warkentien, Associate Professor of Music, preceded the processional which was led by Steven Cramer, PhD, President of Bethel College and Deborah Gillum, PhD, Dean of Nursing. William Klempay, father of ADN graduate JoAnne Jester, read the invocation. A scripture reading was shared by BSN graduate Laura Hickox and the song, “We Are” was sung by Nicole Beguin, ADN graduate. Dr. Gillum introduced the speaker, Robert Laurent, PhD, Vice President for College Relations. Dr. Bob, as he is known on campus, presented “Why Bethel Nurses Are the Best”. He stated that he thinks a very appropriate bumper sticker would read “I’m a Bethel nurse. I fight the Angel of Death every day. What do you do for a living?” A primary reason he feels Bethel nurses are the best is because they include Jesus in the care they provide to people. Following the address, members of the faculty blessed the hands of each graduating nursing student. “Take My Life” was sung by BSN students Michelle Busse, Chelsea Davidson, and Jewel Kitsos and musical selections were performed by Anna Klassen, BSN student, and Lydia Klassen. The symbolism of the nursing cap and the nursing pin was explained by Dr. Gillum. The members of the nursing class of 2013 were presented by Nursing Professor Sally Erdel, MS and received their pins from members of the nursing faculty and a flower from Dr. Gillum. Nurses in the audience were invited by Nursing Professor Kathleen Hoffer, MS to join the graduates in reading the International Pledge for Nurses. Closing remarks were offered by Barbara Bellefeuille, EdD, Vice President for Academic Services. Blair Carlstrom and Zion Carlstrom, spouse and daughter of ADN graduate Tracy Carlstrom , gave the benediction.
In separate ceremonies held recently, several nursing students were recognized with scholarships and awards.
