LaVerne P. Blowers is Professor of Christian Mission and Theology. His education includes the following: B.A. Seattle Pacific College, 1962; M.Div. Asbury Theological Seminary, 1967; Th.M Fuller Theological Seminary, 1971; and D.Miss. Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, 1989.
Dr. Blowers has been involved in Christian higher education since 1972 and at Bethel since 1986, having previously taught at the Faculdade de Teologia da Igreja Metodista Livre in São Paulo, Brazil, Seattle Pacific University, and Roberts Wesleyan College. As an ordained minister he has pastored churches in southern California and São Paulo, Brazil. He is a member of the Wesleyan Theological Society, the American Academy of Religion, the American Society of Missiology, the Evangelical Missiological Society and the Western New York Genealogical Society. Dr. Blowers has written several scholarly articles on liberation theology and the theology of mission as well as reviews in missiological and theological journals.
He enjoys tracing his family heritage “back to the boats” as well as keeping informed on what in the world God is doing through His church by visiting and studying various missions throughout the earth. Each day it becomes more and more rewarding for him to learn how God is using former students and church attenders to continue to grow His Kingdom around the world.
LaVerne and his wife Loretta [Program Manager for Prior Learning in the Non-Traditional Studies Office] have been at Bethel College over 25 years. Their son Kevin is a 1996 graduate of Bethel College, an A.M. in Humanities from the University of Chicago, and a M.L.S. from Indiana University and serves Bethel College as Assistant Librarian. Their daughter Kristiana Joy Donahue is a 1999 graduate of Bethel College and serves her community as a Director of Sales and Marketing at the Waterford in Mishawaka, Indiana.
