School of Business and Social Science
"Education is the craft... of putting sight into the soul" (Plato's Republic, Book Vll).
Welcome to the School of Arts & Sciences!
Under the tutelage of Socrates, Plato learned that the “virtue of reason seems to belong … to something more divine” (Book VII). We also believe that the pursuit knowledge and the application of learning and wisdom is a holy and divine calling. Clearly, Plato learned to turn his powers of reason to useful and beneficial purposes. The goal of the School of Arts & Sciences is to help its students to do the same.
The School of Arts & Sciences has three areas of study: Fine Arts, Language Arts, and the Sciences. To the right you can find links to each of our ten departments. I would encourage you to explore both our on-line information and published catalog for each department of interest. Please also contact the department liaisons for more information about our programs and majors.
Following the tripartite vision of Bethel College, the School of Arts & Sciences strive to create a vibrant community of lifelong scholars and learners , maintain excellence in teaching and learning both in and out of the classroom, and engage our students, faculty, and staff in service to our immediate and worldwide community. We accomplish this mission through our major areas of study, as well as in our general education courses. We hope to fulfill all of our educational objectives by:
- Creating quality teaching-learning experiences
- Offering experiences beyond the classroom
- Fostering a lifelong spirit of scholarship, inquiry and independent study
- Preparing our students to serve others
- Encouraging the development of relationships with faculty and staff
- Nurturing holistic intellectual, physical and social growth
- Challenging our community to complete Christian commitment
The School of Arts and Sciences desires to prepare each student to run the race well, with endurance, courage and faith. Our hope is that you find Bethel College both challenging and rewarding, so that when you complete your studies, you know you are well prepared for the next phase of life. Join us in the journey!
