“Dr. Scott” has a widely-educated background: a B.S. in Music Therapy from the University of Minnesota (1979); an M.A. in Theatre/Communication from Regent University (1986); a second M.A. in Philosophy/Aesthetics from Temple University in Philadelphia (1992); and a Ph.D. from Regent University in Virginia Beach, Virginia (2000). His wife, Dr. Carolynn Hine-Johnson, graduated from Bethel College in 1987. Scott has been teaching at Bethel since 2001.
During his free time, Scott may be discovered participating in a variety of activities—depending on the time of year or the current passions of his heart. He has directed several theatre productions at his church, including Shadowlands, Edith Stein and The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. He and Carolynn have written, produced and directed several local productions that incorporated Christ-centered drama and dance, such as Scrooge 3:16 (For God So Loved Scrooge). He is also an avid disc golfer, rollerblader, and outdoorsy-type.
Research interests have included Blogging and Harry Potter, Tolkien and Lewis. He teaches courses in Communication, and particularly likes teaching Speech class because it is concerned with more than the acquisition of knowledge—Speech Communication is all about becoming a better human being, devoted to serving God and humankind.
