With a rather eclectic educational and professional background, Beth McLaughlin has a B.S. in English and Speech Communication from Taylor University, a Master of Ministries from Bethel College, and her doctor of philosophy iin Communication Studies at Regent University. McLaughlin has a broad background in advertising and public relations serving in several local not-for-profits and local agencies as public relations director, account executive and copywriter. She was a partner in a local advertising agency for five years. She is married to Donald McLaughlin, and they have two teenage daughters, Kaitlin and Holly and one angry cat.

McLaughlin teaches various courses in communication including composition, speech, interpersonal, mass media, and professional writing, as well as courses in public relations. Formerly, she served Bethel College as director of the writing center. Her interests are to encourage students to find their voice through academic and personal writing to express their unique call as persons created in the image of God. Her research interests include: C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien; visual rhetoric; women and quiltmaking as expressions of religious faith; spirituality and popular culture.

Other personal interests include: recreational fencing, sword collecting, reading most everything, singing tenor in the Clay United Methodist Church choir, mild exercise and mime
