2006 Award Recipients
Bethel College proudly recognizes the accomplishments of two outstanding alumni who give selflessly for the betterment of community, family, church and their profession.
Greg Conrad, Alumnus of the Year
Do you know someone who benefits from home health care in northern
Indiana or southern Michigan? Chances are that Bethel’s Alumnus of the Year, Greg
Conrad (B.A. ’81 and M.B.A. ’05), oversees their home nursing, therapy,
supplies and
equipment.
As vice president of Memorial Health System and general manager of Memorial Home Care, Greg supervises 400 employees who daily care for 2,500 patients.
The entire Memorial Health System looks to Greg for leadership on its executive planning group and other committees. He also graduated in 2006 from Leadership South Bend/Mishawaka.
Last, but not least, Greg contributes his expertise to Bethel students, who honored him as 2005-2006 Adjunct Faculty of the Year.
Melvin Coil, Timothy Award
Melvin Coil (’56) wondered if his days
of
service had ended. “Who opens doors for people 80
years old?”
God heard him.
Now 84, Melvin has won the Timothy Award for sacrificial roles abroad and at home. A former pastor, county director and advisor for the Indiana Department of Public Welfare, he now touches lives through International Christian Development Mission. Mel recruits sponsors for needy Haitian children and raises funds for food, medical and educational supplies.
Melvin is active in the Cardinal Center Foundation, as he helps his son and other handicapped residents lead fuller lives. He volunteers as a guardian advocate and REAL Community Services Advisory Council member. He frequently visits patients in hospitals and nursing homes.
