Summer Camp Success
One might think that the buzz at Bethel quiets down to a minimum during the summer. One would be wrong. It’s actually the start of a new “younger” buzz on campus.
About 1,000 sports campers came to campus throughout the summer months from tiny kids to teens. Bethel Basketball Coach Mike Lightfoot coordinated more than 10 different sports camps from soccer to volleyball, basketball and even a mini (kids) camp. He says it’s not just about athletics, but growing spiritually as well.
“It is a great way to connect with the young kids in the area,” says Lightfoot. “We had around 50 basketball campers accept Christ this summer.”
For those interested in brain activity more than physical activity, Bethel offered its second year of Academic Camps, coordinated by Joel Boehner. He says two news camps were added this year — musical theatre and jazz with Vicktoria Garrett and engineering with Ralph Bruce.
“The musical theatre and jazz campers put on a wonderful performance for their parents and some Bethel staff with the expert accompaniment of the Jim Pickley Trio. The engineering campers capped off their week by testing their thoughtfully and scientifically constructed bridges,” says Boehner.
