Recently last year I found out that I am going to be a block mentor next year! Bethel has groups of students that are in a block for their first semester. In the block you take the same two classes and also do activities with them. As a block mentor, I will be helping the incoming freshman get to know Bethel and also get to build relationships with them.

I was excited to have this opportunity because I really liked being a part of my block last semester. I am looking forward to being able to give back to the program. I really like that Bethel has given me a lot of opportunities to get involved.

The first half of this week was Deeper Life Conference at Bethel. We had chapel twice Monday and Tuesday (normally we only have one on Monday, Wednesday, Friday). There was a speaker named Les Beauchamp that gave talks for all of the chapels. One of my favorite parts about chapel at Bethel is they bring in a variety of chapel speakers. He talked about the Holy Spirit and I really liked it.

I also signed up with a group of my friends for housing for next year. This year is wrapping up quickly, but I’m trying to enjoy it while I can! This summer I will be working for an organization called Youthworks doing short term mission trips in the US. Before I know it, I will be back at Bethel for a start of another year!

We have about 4 weeks of classes left, which seems crazy! It is now time to schedule classes and start planning for next semester. This is a little hectic because at the same time I have to finish projects and papers for this semester at the same time. Luckily I have a good adviser and professors to help guide me through the process.

More exciting news is that I applied for going on the Pacific Rim Semester Abroad trip for next spring. We get to spend a semester in China, New Zeland, and Australia. I am really excited about this opportunity and hope I get to do it!

I can’t believe this semester is almost over. I have definitely had a blast and can’t wait until next year. I think the thing I have enjoyed most is all the memories and good times shared with friends, sometimes the little things are the best.

It is really nice to be able to have a break, especially since it is so nice out. I’ve been playing basketball on Bethel’s new outdoor courts and also playing sand volleyball and tennis ball golf.

The warm weather really makes weekends at Bethel enjoyable. I like being able to just hang out with friends outside and enjoy the weather.

The weather is getting really nice here which is strange for this time of year. I love it because there is so much more to do outside and it just puts me in a good mood. We have started playing sand volleyball again and I also played tennis ball golf around the campus. Since it is really nice out I am having a tough time staying inside and doing homework, but it needs to be done. The pace of my classes have picked up the second half of this semester.

Once I am done with this semester I will have most of my Gen Ed classes done which feels great. I can’t believe I am almost done with my first year already. It has been going so fast, so I try to step back and enjoy it as much as I can.

This week was my first time being really sick away from home. I had the stomach flu, and was really bad for one day. That day I had to miss all three of my classes which I was a little worried about because I had quizzes in all of them. I was really grateful and impressed in how willing my professors were to work with me to catch up. The professors here genuinely care about the students. Because of Bethel’s size they can really invest into us as students, and I think that is a huge advantage as a student.

Also it was nice to have everyone in my hall check in on me every once in a while to see how I was doing. I really appreciate all the guys in my hall and the friendships we have been able to make. Thankfully I am feeling much better now!

Today it was extremely nice out, well at least for the middle of February! Because of that I was able to spend a lot of time outside playing on Bethel’s outdoor basketball courts and also played some Ultimate Frisbee on the intramural field. This was great for me because I’m not a fan of winter and it was nice to be able to enjoy some good weather with good friends.

Also this week was the Pilot Olympics. This is a competition where dorms participate against each other in various games and activities. We did things like frisbee golf, Mario Kart tournament, poker tournament, Euchre tournament, dodgeball, cookie eating contest, bible quizzing, and flag making. It was really a lot of fun, even though our team didn’t bring home the victory. It was definitely a memorable week!

While it is good to spend time at home every once in a while, I like being here and being able to hang out with my friends. Also there are normally basketball games on Saturday which are fun to watch.
While some people go home on weekends, there is still plenty to do at Bethel. We are right down the road from different activities and movie theaters. If you have in your head that something won’t be fun, then it probably won’t be. I actually enjoy weekends here and think it is a great time to grow closer to my friends I have here.

This past week in my dorm, Oakwood, was Dude Week. Basically, we had an “electronic fast” from video games, computers (other than homework), and tv and movies. Most people, especially guys would not enjoy the thought of this. However, this week was a blast!
We had lots of activities throughout the week. To name a few we had a slip and slide in our hallway, dodgeball, late night steak and shake trip, and lots more. I also enjoyed just hanging out with my friends playing cards or games.
Overall I would say this has been one of my favorite and most memorable weeks at college!

WCAC stands for World Christian Action Conference, which we had at Bethel this past week. We had a couple of really good guest speakers for chapel, and also had chapel more often than we do in a normal week. I loved this week because God has really given me a heart for the world.

It was nice to be able to see other ways of helping the world that I hadn’t been exposed to much before. I have spent a good amount of time around poverty and orphanages, but this week our one speaker spoke a lot about human trafficking. I didn’t realize how big of an issue this was. I am really grateful that Bethel brings important issues to me, and I am learning about important stuff even outside of the classroom.
