Carol Of The Bells
It is now time for Christmas carols, stockings, wrapping presents, and spreading that holiday cheer! I feel like Thanksgiving just flew by. I never realized how soon Christmas comes after it.
Christmas will be here in exactly 3 weeks Ladies and Gentlemen!
The students here at Bethel have one more week of classes left, then it’s finals. I can’t believe I’ve completed one and a half years of college already. It’s almost unreal. How did high school seem to drag on so much? So much has happened in this past week, but I would like to share one thing that really stood out to me and blessed me more than words can express.
Last night the RAs took the Shupe girls to Healthwin (a local nursing home) to sing Christmas carols up and down the halls. We even brought ornaments and signed cards to hand out to the residents. At first, I was kind of in a hurry and knew I had a million other things to do, but I was doing my best at being where I was and enjoying it. It wasn’t until we were on the second floor that I was truly blessed. I noticed a woman in her room facing her bed in a wheelchair. Her name (Carolyn) was on the door, so I called out her name and asked if she could hear us sing and wanted me to turn her around. She said she was fine where she was, but enjoyed our singing. It wasn’t until I entered the room, that I remembered her from our Bingo Night back in November. I brought her an ornament and a card which made her smile – her smile was beautiful!
I asked how her day had been, to which she replied that she had had to see the doctor and would have to go back the next day. I asked her if I could pray for her. Carolyn smiled at me and said she would like that very much. As I watched this woman close her eyes and bow her head, tears welled up in my eyes and my throat closed up. My heart was filled with love and compassion for her. After, choking out a short prayer I asked if I could give her a hug before I left. She agreed and as I bent down she kissed my cheek. That was it for me! As soon as I exited Carolyn’s room I had to wipe away the tears and blink back the others that threatened to follow. God had definitely shown me His heart for Carolyn and even the others that I sang to and saw. He is such a great God! I just pray that the girls got just as great of an experience from it as I did.
