Running, really? Ridiculous!
Running–it’s a pastime for many, especially here at Bethel. Our track and cross country teams are amazing! For me on the other hand, running has never been my thing. Growing up I danced for fourteen years so I was in shape from that, but then I joined the sport of doing homework. I decided to remedy that this summer.
The beginning of summer break:
- My thoughts: “Alright Corrie, let’s do this running thing! It’s supposed to be really good for you. Your end-of-the-summer goal is running around the lake twice!”
- Result: could barely run half a mile.
Middle of summer break:
- My thoughts: “This is harder than I thought, but I think I like it.”
- Results: steadily running further.
End of summer break:
- My thoughts: “I just got new running shoes so let’s keep up the running and make my goal!”
- Results: I made my goal with a little walking included and then ran a 5k!
Needless to say, it was quite exciting to make my goal, especially after never, ever, EVER being a runner before. Did I mention that I’ve never been a runner before? Then school started… I ran a few times at the beginning of the semester with some of the girls on my floor and even got tips from track and cross country runners. I felt set to run a marathon…or at least train for one. Knowing me, though, I haven’t taken the opportunity to run as much as I could have throughout this semester. But I went on a run the other day and ran even farther than I have yet!
Bethel, thank you for inspiring me to stay active, healthy, and to try something new.Â
