Battle Of The Bands
The other night I had the pleasure of attending Bethel’s Battle of the Bands. Not only was the night filled with humor, but incredible talent. There were so many fantastic voices and instrumentalists using their gifts for God’s glory, it was a delight to watch and listen to. I couldn’t help but wish I would have made my own band. And not only was it fun to hear a variety of styles and music, but it was a nice opportunity to see how when music is played people come together and form “teams” or in this case “bands”. They learn each others strengths and weaknesses; they learn to listen to each other better–to communicate differently too. Sounds like something you can gain from a degree in the humanities
.
Community is something I’ve learned a lot about at Bethel, and I think it’s safe to say events like Battle of the Bands are a great way to showcase community in a different form. In fact, I think there’s a lot to be said about music and community. Maybe I’ll write a book about it. Seriously, I think this event prompted, even sparked, some new stories to be written. I shall go and attempt to write my first one now. Perhaps it will be shared later on this blog or in my humanities project or in the book I will someday publish and expect you–my few readers–to buy.
