Academic Summer Camps
Bethel's Academic Camps provide campers, from ages 7 – 17, with the opportunity to explore the vast world of Academics. Our camps are run by college professors who have significant experience and expertise in their respective fields that they are channeling into a fun, hands-on experiential learning format.
All campers who successfully complete a Bethel Academic Camp will receive a $250 financial award toward Bethel College.

Registration Deadline: Two weeks prior to each camp. If space is available, late registrations will be accepted up to the first day of camp for an additional $10.00 fee.

Chemistry Capers

Goggles and grime, let’s solve a crime! Have you ever wondered why fireworks display many colors when they ignite? Do you ask yourself why you have to sort the different kinds of plastics in recycling centers? We’ll be hot on the trail of the infamous Pilot Prankster as we follow the chemistry clues and conduct experiments to solve these mysteries and many more! Campers will not only be having fun each day, but training to “fight crime.” On Friday, campers will solve a “Whodunit” scenario by incorporating the information and techniques they used during the week to put the Pilot Prankster in his or her place.

World Music Drumming

Professor of Music/Director of Music EducationCreate and keep the beat! Explore drumming in the unique setting of a "drum circle." This camp accommodates both new and intermediate drummers who want to encounter rhythm through the technique of hand drumming. Campers will work within a safe, fun, and community-oriented environment in which they will practice coordination skills, reading rhythm patterns, and drumming as a group. While no experience is necessary to participate, those with drumming experience will be challenged with new rhythms and techniques. Hand drums will be available for campers who don't own one.

Sports Hollywood

Associate Faculty in CommunicationBe a sportscaster for a week and experience the glamour and glitz of Sport Communication. You'll write, direct and star in your very own versions of ESPN's famous shows, including "Sportscenter," "First and Ten," "PTI," and of course the ESPY Awards! Using communication tools and skills, campers will learn to shoot video, take photos and conduct interviews for print and broadcast media as they work with the best staff and participants that Bethel's Athletic Camps have to offer. Art With The Masters

Asst. Professor of ArtCreate a masterpiece! Use paint, clay, pencil and more to explore the styles of the world's most important art masters. Campers will create works of art in both 2D and 3D as they focus on artistic style. Foster creativity and fine motor skills necessary for creating art. Campers in each age-appropriate camp will learn about history's most renowned artists while practicing those artists' techniques.

Nursing Camp

Nursing InstructorOpen the door to the amazing world of nursing! Discover a life of compassionate care-taking as you work with and learn from a professional nurse. Campers will explore the field of nursing as they work to understand bacteria, energy, the "pump of life" and more! Work with glow-in-the-dark material that will show you what life forms stay with you 24/7, while also understanding how you might fit into the fast-paced profession of nursing.

Theatre Camp

Theater InstructorDo dramatic scenes get you wondering how actors create characters? Do you enjoy trying on different personalities? Do you love acting out scenes among family and friends? Maybe you just want to build confidence and make new friends? Then theater camp is for you! Join us this summer as you learn techniques that theater actors use to perform on stage to the delight of audiences. As you build on your own natural creativity, we will explore different aspects of theater, from improvisation and script work to short scenes and playlets. We will perform for an audience at the end of the week, as we introduce you to the spotlight of the stage!

Explore the wonders of writing through a series of creative and fun writing exercises designed to help campers develop their own creative writing style. Campers will create their own short stories and poems and produce the first ever WOWW Anthology of their work.

Write Your YA Novel

Writing Instructor and Freelance WriterStart your own YA novel! Explore the world of fiction for young adults and adolescents, learning how to write for your own age group. Campers will explore characterization and plot while setting scenes and building suspense within their novel. Invite your friends and family for a reading from the first chapter of your novel on the last day of camp.

Instrumental Ensemble

Associate Professor of MusicCalling all musicians — piano, strings, brass, woodwind and percussion! Campers will learn new repertoire and perform in various ensembles as they gain more experience in the art of making music. Campers will perform their new repertoires in a Friday, pre–lunch concert. Meet and join others who love music while honing your artistic abilities.
