The Second Annual Scholarship Benefit Dinner for Nursing 2000 North was held Friday, Sept. 22, 2006 at the Feast in Lakeville, Ind. Nursing 2000 North is a collaborative between nursing service and education. Its goal is to promote and support registered nursing careers to positively impact clinical and academic nursing workforce resources using contemporary strategies to reach diverse populations. This collaborative stretches across six counties (Lake, Porter, La Porte, St. Joseph, Elkhart and Marshall). Nursing 2000 North provided a sponsorship for one Bethel College student, Alluta Phiri.
Tricia Sloma of channel 16, WNDU-TV, was emcee for the celebration. Mayor Leigh Morris, La Porte City mayor, was the honorary co-chair. The featured speaker at the event was Janet Bingle, chief nursing officer of The Community Health Network, inspired the audience with her presentation, "The Passion Within Nursing."
The sponsors for the event were: Porter, Memorial Hospital of South Bend, La Porte Regional Health Systems, Saint Anthony Memorial, DePuy Orthopedics, Paoli Healthcare, Elkhart General Health System, Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, Valparaiso University College of Nursing, Memorial Home Care, Press Ganey Associates, Inc., Saint Mary's College, Cardiothoracic Surgery, P.C., Purdue University Calumet – School of Nursing, Purdue North Central, Indiana University South Bend, Comfort Keepers and La Porte Savings Bank.
