Bethel College proudly recognizes the accomplishments of two outstanding individuals who give selflessly for the betterment of community, family, church and their profession. This year Mr. Sam Davenport will receive the Alumnus of the Year award and Mrs. Sue Morey will receive the Honorary Alumnae Award at a ceremony held in the Everest-Rohrer Chapel/Fine Arts Center Auditorium on Saturday, October 27, 2007, at 7:30 p.m.
“Generous Servant” is a fitting term to describe Sam Davenport, Bethel’s Alumnus of the Year for 2007. Davenport (’77) has dedicated his time and talents to Bethel College by serving as treasurer of the board of trustees and chairman of the alumni board. He continues to be a regular volunteer at alumni-sponsored events.
Davenport is a partner at McGladrey & Pullen, LLP, where he has worked since his graduation from Bethel with a degree in accounting. At his church, Davenport is the deacon of finance and is highly involved in the music ministry. He also serves on the board of Eurasia Ministries which provides support to a ministry training college in the former Soviet Union. Bethel honors Davenport for his outstanding service to his vocation, his almamater and ministries in the United States and abroad.
Bethel’s Honorary Alumnae for 2007, Mrs. Sue Morey, R.N., M.S., has been a distinguished member of the board of trustees and avid supporter of the school’s programs. Following her appointment to the trustee board in 1998, Morey chaired its student development committee. She also shared her wisdom with the Class of 2006 as one of its commencement speakers. Morey has participated in several Bethel Task force teams, working alongside students and encouraging them in their mission goals. She is also a tireless volunteer for many community organizations, such as The Salvation Army and the Linus Project. Bethel honors Morey for her dynamic relationship with the college and welcomes her into the ranks of Bethel alumni.
