AREA YOUTH TO CONVERGE ON BETHEL COLLEGE’S JENKINS STADIUM FOR FIELDS OF FAITH OUTREACH

Area students will gather together at Bethel College’s Jenkins Stadium* on Wednesday, October 10, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. for an outreach event called Fields of Faith. These students, as well as other students across the nation, will join together to hear one another’s testimonies, challenge each other to read the Bible and encourage their classmates to come to faith in Jesus Christ. Bethel College’s Chapel Band will also be at the event to lead the students in worship.

This year the goal of the “Fields of Faith” is to get students back to the spiritual fundamentals. Led by Bethel College’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) chapter, but attendance is not limited to athletes. Fields of Faith is open to all students in junior high, high school and college.

“I am very excited that Bethel is hosting a Fields of Faith event this year,” says Allen Wagler, event coordinator and Bethel College admission counselor/coordinator of church relations. “This event is about students in the real world talking to other students about how the Word of God has changed their lives. The message is basic and the people are real. And in our world today, that’s very refreshing.”

Fields of Faith began with Jeff Martin, an Oklahoma Area Director for the FCA. Martin desired to address the struggles faced by today’s generation of youth and realized that students needed to be challenged to read God’s Word. It was then that he gathered over 6,000 students on school athletic fields throughout Oklahoma and Texas for the first Fields of Faith. Since then, the number of students attending Fields of Faith has increased, and hundreds of students have made commitments to Christ. On October 11, 2006, the event became national.

“We asked ourselves the question, ‘What if athletic fields across America were filled with students challenging each other to read the Bible and come to faith in Jesus Christ,’” said Les Steckel, President of FCA. “An athletic field is a location that everyone is familiar with and provides a neutral rally point. ‘Fields of Faith’ had made such an impact on students in Texas and Oklahoma; we wanted to take it nationwide.”

“Throughout history, God has sparked great spiritual awakenings through young people,” said Martin. “And that is the power that we are trying to accomplish through Fields of Faith. It goes beyond its appearance of a one-night rally on an athletic field. It goes to the heart of the future of a nation. It’s not just another event; it’s a change in culture.”
