The young bible quiz competitors had been memorizing and studying the books of Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians and Philemon for nearly a year. Two divisions divided the quizzers who ranged in ages from 12-20 years old. There were 19 teams in the "Experienced" category and 11 teams in the "Less Experienced" category. Five divisions represented the Midwest and Canada: Central, East Central, West Central, Michigan and Canada. Each quiz round was set up with two teams of four who competed against each other trying to answer the most questions out of 20 correctly.
The Bethel College scholarship is named in honor of Tom Schindler, one of the best known quiz masters, in recognition of his many valuable contributions and years of service to Bible quizzing. The Missionary Church has participated in Bible quiz since 1969, while Bethel College has hosted the event for more than 10 years.
