The ‘Stuff the Barrel for Your School’ Food Drive has a winner —Bethel College.
On September 11 two Northern Indiana Food Bank interns organized the event. Five universities and colleges were represented by large barrels outside Sign-A-Rama in Mishawaka. The goal was for the fans, students and alumni of each school to fill their barrels with food.
At the end of the contest 566 pounds of food was collected. Bethel’s winning barrel weighed 328 pounds. In addition, the school’s students, staff and alumni also collected $140 in cash donations. With the purchasing that the Food Bank does, every dollar donated will provide food at eight times that amount.
Here’s how the other schools ranked:
2nd – Indiana University South Bend
3rd – Purdue University
4th – University of Notre Dame
5th – St. Mary’s College
The Food Bank of Northern Indiana serves Elkhart, Kosciusko, LaPorte, Marshall, St. Joseph and Starke counties.
