Bethel Welcomes First ISSA-Sanctioned Skateboarding Competition

Bethel College will host the first Epic International Skate Fest on Saturday, Sept. 26. Sponsored by the Bethel College Longboard Association and Epic Church, skaters from at least six states will compete in several categories like Hybrid Slalom and Downhill Slide. The event starts at 9 a.m. and ends with awards at 5 p.m.

Peter Metzger, Bethel senior and coordinator of the event, says skateboarding among the student body has skyrocketed in recent years at Bethel. He hopes to bring more awareness to slalom skating through this event.

“It’s a type of skating I see growing in our part of the country and I wanted to provide a place for it to happen. I also wanted this to be an opportunity for people to try out slalom and witness many types of skating,” says Metzger.

This is a spectator free event where audience applause will judge some contests. Anyone can compete and those who want to can sign up for a small fee. For more information, contact Peter Metzer at metzgep@BethelCollege.edu.
