Bethel College alumna Michelle Ferris (’09) and The Vineyard Church of Mishawaka will host “Art for the Heart of Africa” Friday, Oct. 23 at 6:30 p.m. at The Vineyard Church located at 16219 Jackson Rd. in Mishawaka, Ind. It’s a silent and live art auction meant to help raise funds for orphaned children in Southern Sudan. The silent auction starts at 7 p.m. and a live auction starts at 8 p.m.
A friend gave Ferris the idea nearly two years ago because she was contemplating how to use her art in a practical and beneficial way. Ferris presented the idea to her pastor at The Vineyard Church last year. Since then the church’s planning committees have come together to help make this event a reality.
More than 25 local and regional artists will be featured including Bethel Art Professors Suzanne Mauro and Chris Stackowicz, as well as recent alumni Brittany Fried-Baughman, Hannah Lambdin-Grudda and Ferris. In addition to these artists, children of the “New Generation Dreamland Children's Home” in Yei, Sudan, also provided art. This particular art was sent back with The Vineyard Church team last month. Those pieces will be up for auction as well.
This is a semiformal event that is free and open to the public. All funds raised will go directly to support the New Generation Dreamland Children’s Home in Southern Sudan. For more information, contact Clint Schwartz at The Vineyard Church at 574.257.1924
