Bethel Hires Dean of Nursing

After a yearlong search, Bethel administrators announce the hiring of Carol Dorough, Ed.D. as the dean of nursing. Dorough will fill a vacant position formerly held by Ruth Davidhizar, Ph.D. Davidhizar, passed away on September 11, 2008. She was one of Bethel’s most nationally recognized professors.

Dorough comes to Bethel will a long list of accomplishments and professional titles including: professor, nurse, medical technologist and her most current title as chair of the School of Nursing at Southern Narzarene University in Bethany, Okla. She holds her Doctorate of Education (Ed.D.) from Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

Her research has concentrated on multiple aspects of nursing education. These include the development of processes designed to provide increased support for students, as they begin and proceed through the nursing program, as well as for new nursing faculty and staff. Her most extensive work has focused on the perceived academic and social needs of international students, and suggested approaches to addressing those needs. She has also written and revised curriculum for undergraduate and graduate nursing courses. In addition, Dorough has written devotionals to be used in higher education nursing classrooms.

Dorough starts her new position at Bethel in the fall of 2010.

Nursing programs are also offered in cooperation with Grace College in Winona Lake, Ind.
