Bethel College a Stop and Go Spot for Bike the Bend

Bethel College will be one of nine water station stops for the Bike the Bend event on Sunday, May 23, from 6:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Bike the Bend is a new recreational, noncompetitive bicycling event where both casual and experienced riders can ride the streets and trails of South Bend, Mishawaka and St. Joseph County. The event consists of approximately 30 miles of safe family biking free of vehicular traffic.

“A large portion of the ride takes place on city streets where normal motorized vehicle activity will be restricted and bicycles will have priority between the hours of the event. Bike the Bend is not a race! It is a gift to our community to enjoy the beauty of nature and to give everyone the opportunity to create family memories,” says Event Director Peg VanNevel.

Riders may enter and leave Bethel’s campus from Clay Street. They will go in a counterclockwise direction while on campus with a stop at the Wiekamp Athletic Center for water and snacks. There will also be vendors selling refreshments at the Post-Ride Festival at Kamm Island.

Register for the event at the South Bend Farmer’s Market, Coveleski Stadium and the Michiana YMCA. Early registration deadline is April 23. Visit www.bikethebend.com for costs and more information.
