Bethel College and the South Bend Tribune will host a purse sale to benefit the Tribune’s Newspapers in Education (NIE) program on July 31. The sale goes from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will showcase 1,600 new and gently used purses, handbags and totes in the Great Hall and Rotunda of the Everest-Rohrer Chapel/Fine Arts Center. Expect to find name brand bags like Coach, Vera Bradley, Jessica Simpson, Fossil, Tommy Hilfiger, Stone Mountain, Gucci, Liz Claiborne and more.
The South Bend Tribune’s NIE program places more than 150,000 newspapers in local Michiana classrooms to be used as additional teaching tools. Teachers are charged a nominal fee of $.05 per paper with NIE covering the remaining costs. The funds to cover the cost are covered strictly by monies raised through various fund-raising programs. This is the first purse sale. One of the most popular fund-raising events is the Taste of Home Cooking School.
