Bethel College will host the SOS (Summer of Service) student weekend for incoming 6th graders to graduating seniors, providing them with campus housing at a reduced cost. Roughly 400 teenagers and volunteers from 25 local church youth groups will participate in the four-day, three-night, service-oriented event from June 14 to 17.
The vision of Summer of Service student weekend is two-fold: to impact the geographic community of Michiana with the love of God and to develop a heightened student-community and attitude of service among participants. Besides taking part in service projects throughout the community, the students will also engage in sessions throughout the weekend, which will offer opportunities for worship, teaching, prayer, group discussion and devotions.
“Our summer team staff gets involved by helping as leadership and driving teams of students to their work space in town,” says Justine Lightfoot, assistant director of special events and conference services. “They have also been wonderful to work with and Bethel loves being a part of this ministry as they impact the community.”
