Bethel College Associate Professor of Communication Elizabeth McLaughlin, Ph.D., recently collaborated on a book project called “Interfaith Dialogue in Practice: Christian, Muslim, Jew.” The project was recently released by Rockhurst University Press. Contributors include various communication professors across the states along with McLaughlin.
Written from a communication perspective, the book provides useful strategies that aid in the understanding of Christianity, Islam and Judaism by focusing on both communication and theology. Contributors to this volume write from their own personal experience as communication experts facing the challenges of interfaith dialogue.
McLaughlin authored a chapter entitled “Building Bridges: A Proposal of the Chartrain Labyrinth as Paradigm for the Transformational Journey of Interfaith Dialogue.” This chapter stresses the importance of understanding the narratives that surround visual metaphors and how they can contribute to dialogue and mutual understanding in the lives of believers and bridge the gap between different religions.
McLaughlin has contributed to other recently upcoming published works involving interfaith dialogue. These include a chapter in Interfaith Dialogue: Listening to Communication Theory entitled “Interfaith Encounters as Lived Parable,” and an article in the Journal of Communication & Religion entitled “Half the Sky and the Image of God: Stories to Transform and Save Women’s Lives.”
