The Bethel College Chamber Orchestra will join the Wind Ensemble to present a free concert to the community on Thursday, April 18 at 7:30 p.m. in the Everest-Rohrer Chapel/Fine Arts Center – Auditorium. The orchestra will be conducted by Associate Professor of Music Vicky Tan Warkentien, D.M.M.
“We decided to combine the Chamber Orchestra and Wind Ensemble concerts for three reasons: (1) to free up an evening in a busy time of the year, (2) to combine audiences and (hopefully) have one larger audience for both groups, and (3) to save time for our students who perform in many different groups,” says Associate Professor in Music Mike Kendall.
Repertoire for this spring’s program includes: “Symphony No. 40 in G minor,” “KV. 550” by Mozart, excerpts from “Jeux d'enfants” (“Children's Games”) “Op. 22” by Bizet, and “Suite for Trumpet and Strings” by Latham with senior Kayli Savage as soloist.
The Wind Ensemble, directed by Mike Kendall, will be performing a number of exciting works including: Frank Ticheli’s “Angels in the Architecture” and David Maslanka’s “Give Us This Day.” The featured soloist on the program is clarinetist Brooke Victor performing Ennio Morricone’s Theme from “The Mission.”
“Please come and enjoy the beauty of classical music,” says Warkentien, D.M.M.
