The Bethel College Department of Art is hosting two receptions to reveal the newly renovated Weaver Art Gallery, in conjunction with the opening of the 10th Annual Juried Student Art Show. The receptions will be held on Feb. 10 at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. in the Everest-Rohrer Chapel/Fine Arts Center.
The renovations include new lighting, a vaulted ceiling, updated signage and a new hanging system to display artwork. The project was made possible by money raised during Bethel's 2016 Online Giving Day.
The gallery is named in honor of Dr. Raymond Weaver, whose life and contributions to Bethel's campus will also be honored at both receptions. Weaver began teaching at Bethel when it opened its doors in 1947, retiring 38 years later at the ago of 80. Although he was hired primarily to teach music, he was best known as the instructor for the fine arts class, a requirement for all Bethel students. He is remembered for his enthusiasm for fine arts and the knowledge he brought to the subject. Weaver passed away in 1991.
