The Bethel College Jazz & Percussion Ensembles will perform a free concert Friday, Nov. 20 at 7:30 p.m. in the Everest-Rohrer Chapel/Fine Arts Center.
The percussion ensemble will beat on everything but actual drums during a performance called, “Junk Funk.” Some of those items include large trash cans, metal pipes, tin cans, metal oven drip pans and drinking glasses. Then they will go back to the norm, playing “Quartet for Paper Bags” and “Ceremonium.” The jazz ensemble will perform Gordon Goodwin’s “Get in Line,” Glen Miller’s “Pennsylvania 6-5000,” Count Basie’s “Splanky” and Horace Silver’s “Song for my Father.”
Pianist Todd McLaughlin, trombonist Jake Robaska and soloist Samantha Hartsough are featured soloists throughout the concert directed by Associate Professor of Music Reginald Klopfenstein, D.M.
The ensemble, made up of a wide variety of majors, not only performs traditional concerts, but travels to coffee houses, schools and churches throughout the area.
