Former Bethel College trustee, the Reverend John P. Moran, D.D., died on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at IU Health Goshen Hospital in Goshen, Ind. He was 78 years old. Visitation will be Friday, Oct. 18 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to the memorial service on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 2 p.m., at Nappanee Missionary Church, 70417 SR 19, Nappanee, Ind.
A 1959 Bethel graduate, Moran served as president of the Missionary Church denomination from 1987-2001. He pastored several local churches including Zion Missionary Church in Elkhart, Ind., and New Paris Missionary Church in New Paris, Ind., and was a missionary to Nigeria, West Africa. In 1987 Bethel conferred Moran with an honorary doctorate. Moran also served Bethel as a member of the board of trustees and as assistant vice president for church relations.
"He was a pastor of pastors, with a tender heart and always an encouraging word,” says Shawn Holtgren, Ph.D., vice president for student development. “He was an amazing ambassador for Bethel College – while he was president of the Missionary Church he would often say, ‘The most spiritually warm place in the Missionary Church is Bethel College!’ He was deeply respected; this is a great loss for the Missionary Church and for all those who knew him.”
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Bethel College Scholarship Fund.
