Bethel Hosts Third Annual Pilgrim Prance and Fun Run

The Bethel College kinesiology department will host its third annual Pilgrim Prance and Fun Run on Saturday, Nov. 23 starting at 8 a.m., with all proceeds being donated to Feed the Hungry. Races offered are a 2.5K Fun Run, men’s and women’s open 5K and men’s and women’s elite 5K.  Participants are encouraged to dress in Thanksgiving-themed costumes.

Senior Evan Pulliam, a business administration major and a sports management minor, is one of nine classmates coordinating the event. This is part of a sports and physical education administration class and is designed to give students real-world experience in promoting health and fitness.

As a result of the project, students are seeing the behind-the-scenes work required for this type of event such as publicity, obtaining sponsorships and coordinating logistics. “We hope to better understand what all goes into running an event like this,” says Pulliam. “This race lets us take the information we have learned in the classroom and use it in a real event.”

The class goal is to collect nonperishable food items and raise more than $500 to donate to Feed the Hungry, an outreach effort organized by Bethel students. Entry fees are a monetary donation or a nonperishable food item for the Fun Run, $10 for the open 5K and $20 for the elite 5K. Gift cards will be presented to the top runners and prizes will also be given to the top three Thanksgiving-themed costumes. All 5K finishers will receive a T-shirt.

The 2.5K Fun Run is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m., women’s open at 8:35 a.m., men’s open at 9:10 a.m., women’s elite at 9:45 a.m. and men’s elite at 10:20 a.m. Registration forms are available online at BethelCollege.edu/Kinesiology and race-day registration will be available.
