Microsoft Office 365 Transition

Free Office for Students

We’re in the process of making some great new additions to Information Technology at Bethel College and want to give you a heads up about a change to Bethel email that will be happening next week as part of the implementation.

Bethel College IT is pleased to announce that Microsoft Office 365 for Education will soon be available for all Bethel students! Your FREE subscription to this service will include:

  • 1 Terabyte of cloud storage for all of your docs and files on OneDrive for Business

  • Microsoft Office installation on up to five computers (Mac or PC)

  • Bethel email hosting with 50 Gigabytes of mailbox storage

  • Access to Office for iPad apps so you can work on the go

In order to implement Office 365 services, we will begin moving all Bethel College student mailboxes to the cloud on Friday, August 1. Throughout that weekend, there may be a brief window of time, no longer than an hour, where your Bethel email may be unavailable while your mailbox is transferred to the cloud. If you find yourself unable to log in to your Bethel email at any time during the transition period of August 1-3, please wait an hour, then try logging in again.

Below, you’ll find basic instructions for accessing each of the new Office 365 features that are coming your way. More in-depth tutorials will be posted on our website.

Frequently Asked Questions

1.  What happens to my free Microsoft Office after I am no longer a Bethel student?
If you choose to download Office for free through your Office 365 subscription, you will continue to have access to the full version of the latest Office software for about six months after your last course.  At that point, the software will prompt you to either upgrade to a paid private Office 365 subscription or to purchase the software to retain access.

2.  Do I need to install Office to view my Bethel e-mail?
No, you don't need to download anything to access your email. Simply visit (or click on the "Office 365" link on my.Bethel) and enter your full Bethel College email address (including and your Bethel password to log in. The first time you log in, you may be directed to a setup page - at this point, you'll need to click on the "Outlook" tab at the top of the page. It may ask you to set your language and time zone. Once you've completed those steps, you'll be taken to your mailbox. In the future, you'll be taken straight to your mailbox when you log in.

3.  Is Microsoft Office available for Android Tablets?
Unfortunately, Office apps are not available for Android tablets at this time. Microsoft has stated they are currently developing the app. Android phones, however, can download the Office app from the Google Play store.

4.  I clicked on the password reset link on Office 365 but nothing happened. Why?
Password resets cannot be completed via the link on the Office 365 log in page - that page is a feature Microsoft provided with Office 365 but it is not compatible with our systems. We understand this may cause some confusion, but unfortunately we cannot remove the link. Please contact the Help Desk (574.807.7777) with any password issues and we will be happy to assist you. You can also reset your password on my.Bethel by clicking on the "Forgot/Reset Your Password?" link. If you are having trouble logging in, please see the directions provided in the answer to question 2 (above) to ensure you have entered the correct credentials.

5. After signing in to the e-mail, I bookmarked, but when going to that site the next time I was redirected to a different sign in page and it did not work. Why?
While you may see a similar URL when you log in, is not a permeant link for your mailbox. Please always visit or bookmark to access Office 365.  You should also no longer use the Email link on my.Bethel or

6. How safe is our mail on Office 365?
Your data is very secure.  Microsoft encrypts each session to prevent against data theft.  Your data is also backed up several times a day by Microsoft and is guaranteed to always be located in a datacenter based in the United States.  Microsoft promises your data will not be given, leased, or sold to other companies for marketing or other purposes.

Thank you for your patience as we work through this transition. We hope you find these new offerings to be beneficial to you. For continued information on Office 365 at Bethel, please check the MyBethel newsfeed or visit
