Campus Improvements
Summer of 2007 Date: 5/7/2007
This summer will once again be very busy around campus. I will again try to give you updates every two weeks during the summer month as to what’s going on. I hope this will be helpful. This contains construction updates as well as other information about what we are doing around campus.
Behind the scene planning is taking place on the Logan Street entrance project with a projected start date of later this summer. A new dorm is also a part of the near future plans with hopes of starting construction by the fall. The Crisis Response Team will be working this summer to refine emergency response procedures with campus training late summer or early fall.
Middleton Science Building
This project has made up some of the 5 weeks we lost during February due to very cold weather and is currently running only 1 1/2 weeks behind. The exterior brick work is almost done and site work continues. Inside the old section of the building, remodeling has started on both the men and women’s restrooms and constructing the corridors to the new addition. The old section of the building is closed to the public for the summer. The nursing wing will remain open. The maintenance department is moving all the contents of the old section to storage for the summer and beginning to remove all the old flooring so they can receive new floor covering.
Bowen Library
A generous donation allows us to remodel a corner of the library to a reading room that will take advantage of the beautiful view of the campus. This project will begin the middle of May and is expected to be completed by July 1. The area will have beautiful hardwood floors and new soft chairs to relax in and cuddle up with your favorite book. In honor of the donor this area will be named Mae’s Corner.
Shupe Hall
Work begins on replacing all the old flooring on the third floor. This will complete a three year effort to replace all the original flooring in the building
House 7 & 8
Work should wrap up this week as the painting crew puts a fresh coat of paint on the exterior walls and roofs.
Brennemen & Egle Hall
A uni-sex bathroom and kitchenette is scheduled to be built in the lounge areas of both dorms. We hope to begin this project soon.
813 Lowell Street
A new shingle roof was installed this week
Grounds & Housekeeping
The grounds department has designed the landscaping for the science building and will begin the work of making it come to life in the next week. They have also been busy mowing, trimming, replacing damaged shrubs and plants & starting up irrigation systems. Planting annual flowers will begin next week.
The housekeeping and maintenance departments are busy going through all the dorm rooms getting them ready for summer conferencing and sports camps.
