Baseball Takes Two At Judson
Game Summary
Baseball got back on track with an impressive sweep of Judson University Thursday evening. The Pilots pulled out a 17-13 slugfest in game one, and then dominated game two 13-1 in five innings.
BC’s bats were in rhythm from the get go with a three-run first inning. The Eagles would rally to take a 7-6 lead heading into the fifth inning but the Pilots would go on to rally and outscore Judson 11-6 in the final three innings.
Bethel’s entire lineup played a hand in the 17 run outburst. Leading the way was shortstop Nelson Sanchez, center-fielder Reid Spitaels, and left-fielder Jon Rolon. Sanchez racked up six RBI as he went 2-3 with two runs scored. Spitaels went 4-6 with three RBI and scored three runs. Rolon was 3-5 with four RBI.
Pitcher Shane Fye would record his second win of the year. He came in relief and helped close the door on the Eagle hitters. Fye went two and a third innings with five strikeouts.
Game two went all Bethel’s way as they only gave up a single run. Judson’s run came in their final attempts in the fifth. Elliot Rowe pitched a great five innings to pick up his fifth win of the season. He only gave up three hits and the run, while striking out five Eagles.
The bats kept rolling in the night cap as the Pilots scored their 13 runs on 12 hits. Tony Bruns, Sanchez, and Spitaels led the charge again with fine batting performances. Bruns went 2-3 with 4 RBI and would be driven in for a run. Sanchez recorded 2 RBI and would score twice. Spitaels went 3-4 with 2 RBI and a run scored. Cameron Branock lived on the bases as well with his one hit, two walks, and three runs scored outing. Collin Koogler came into pinch hit and got an RBI single, and he would then be drove in for another run.
With Thursday night’s showing BC moves back to .500 baseball with a 22-22 record and remain 15-9 in conference play. The Pilots will take the field Saturday for their final home stand of the regular season. They will face Rochester College in a doubleheader starting at 1:00 pm.
