Game Summary

The Bethel College baseball team moved to 24-22 on the final day of the regular season with the doubleheader sweep of Rochester College on Saturday afternoon at Jenkins Stadium in Mishawaka, Ind.

The Pilots took the first game by the final score of 6-4. After Rochester took a 4-3 lead in the top of the fourth inning, the Pilots answered with two runs in the bottom half of the inning and another run in the bottom of the fifth to win by the final margin.

Nelson Sanchez led the way on senior day by going 3-4 with a double and an RBI. Jessie Johnston picked up his third victory of the season by going 5.2 innings while giving up six hits and four earned runs.

The Pilots wasted little time in game two by putting up four runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a commanding lead. That would have been all Bethel needed thanks to a solid pitching performance by Chris Zart. Zart went six innings allowing three runs to pick up his second win of the season. The Pilots added five runs in the fifth and four runs in the sixth inning to lead to the final margin of 13-3.

Five Bethel hitters had multiple hit games including seniors Cameron Branock and Nelson Sanchez. Branock went 2-3 with two stolen bases and three runs scored while Sanchez went 2-3 with and RBI and a run scored. Justin Oprins and Reid Spitaels added homeruns for the Pilots while Mike Green went 2-3 with 3 RBI.

The Pilots will now likely host an opening round game of the MCC Tournament. The game is scheduled to take place on Saturday, May 2nd against an opponent that is yet to be determined.
