Baseball Advances To MCC Championship Game With Win Over No. 21 Spring Arbor
Game Summary
The Bethel College baseball team moved to within one win of the NAIA National Tournament with a thrilling 7-6 victory over NAIA No. 21 Spring Arbor University on Tuesday afternoon at the MCC Tournament in Marion, Ind.
Tony Bruns and Cameron Branock each played a part in Bethel’s seven run output. Branock went 3-4 with two runs scored while Bruns went 3-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Nelson Sanchez also drove in two runs for the Pilots.
Bethel used the steady pitching of Chad Emberton to slow down the Cougars attack. Emberton went the distance throwing nine innings while allowing six runs on 11 hits.
Spring Arbor put a late scare into the Pilots as they tallied three runs in the top of the ninth inning to draw within a run, but it was too little to late as Bethel held on for the victory.
The Pilots now take on Taylor University on Wednesday afternoon in the MCC Championship Game with an automatic berth to the NAIA National Tournament on the line. Bethel and Taylor have already met twice in the tournament with each team picking up a win. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 pm in Marion, Ind.
