Holy Cross tallied the game’s first two points on a pair of free throws before the Pilots used a quick 15-2 run to take early command of the contest. However, the visitors fought back to within a point at 18-17 with 8:52 left in the period. A few minutes later, two Ryne Lightfoot free throws put Bethel back in front by nine at 29-20. And at the break, Bethel led Holy Cross 37-32.
The second half began with the Saints going on a 14-6 run to take a 46-43 lead at the 16:00 mark. But the Pilots answered with a 9-0 run of their own to re-take the advantage 52-46. From that point, Bethel slowly began to pull away, building a 14 point cushion 69-55 with 8:00 remaining. The Pilots managed to hold a double digit lead the rest of the way.
Bethel was led by the 31 point effort from Ryne Lightfoot while teammates Tony Benford and Tyler Brown contributed 13 and 12 points respectively. Brown hauled down 12 rebounds for the contest giving him another double-double performance.
At the conclusion of the game, the Bethel Classic All-Tournament Team was announced. Named to that squad were Marious Lobdell from Judson University, Justin Breveard from Holy Cross College, Jameson Wheeler and Alex Sylvester from Marian University, and Tyler Brown and Tony Benford from Bethel College. Bethel’s Ryne Lightfoot was named the tournament MVP.
