Bethel College Pilots: 5
Midwest Classic
Game Summary
Bethel College Cross Country 2009 officially opened their season Friday at the Midwest Classic, hosted by Olivet Nazarene University. Sophomore Harrison Fausey led the Men’s side for Bethel with a finishing time of 27:44:54, finishing 15th overall and Freshman Trisha Miller led the Women’s side crossing the line at 19:26.88, landing a solid 3rd overall individual position.
It was a warm day as the Pilots traversed the golf course, with many longer straightaways that demanded mental focus. For the Bethel men, Austin O’Connor brought in BC’s second position in 28:16.39, placing 20th overall, just making the top twenty. Just over three seconds later Freshman Jordan Oloomi hit the line, finishing his first collegiate race in Bethel blue at 28:19.49, followed by Junior Drew Bishop (29:28.65) and Junior Cory Naragon (29:32.56). Some injuries reserved some incoming freshman until later races.
On the women’s side, five athletes made the top twenty overall places. Following Miller were: Senior Amber Wray (9th—20:23:35), Sophomore Irene Kangai (13th—20:35:14), Senior Katie Heisey(16th—20:40:08), and Senior Danielle Lewis (19th—20:41.76).
Coach Storlie commented, “We truly have a high quality group of athletes this year, and it is fun seeing both sides work more and more as a unit. It is always exciting to see work on practice days pay off during the races, and I’m looking forward to it unfolding as the season builds!”
The Pilots will continue their racing schedule next week in Grand Rapids, MI at the Knight Invitational.
