Game Summary
The Pilots went to the Home of the Golden Dome Friday, October 2, 2009, as the Fighting Irish Hosted the Notre Dame Invitational.
Spikes sliced the brisk air as a highly competitive twenty—one schools vied for the front positions. In the Golden Race, the Pilot Ladies were paced by Senior Amber Wray, coming in at 19:30, proceeded by Irene Kangai (So.) 20:07, Danielle Lewis (Sr.) 20:42, and Senior Ashley Wray’s well—run time of 20:52. Senior Katie Heisey brought in a 20:55 for the complete top five. A couple of Bethel Women didn’t race, due to injury, but that didn’t prevent the cohesion the team displayed as they all contributed in various ways demonstrating their character and grasp of the concept of team.
The Pilot Men traversed Notre Dame’s Warren Golf Course with Sophomore Harrison Fausey solidly leading the way in 27:27 and Sophomore’s Austin O’Connor’s clocked time of 28:03, Junior Drew Bishop ran a great race (28:42), as he and Freshman Jordan Oloomi (28:36)and Senior Jared Mead (29:07) finished off the top five positions. Junior Cory Naragon (29:39) and Senior Ryan Waybright (30:02) completed the top seven, both showing improvement.
Senior Laura Winningham (23:03) ran with focus in the Women’s JV Race and Justin Nelson ran a 29:42 in the Men’s JV Race, coming out of an injury.
The Bethel Harriers anticipate their next race as they host the Bethel College Invitational next week at St. Patricks’ Park in South Bend, IN.
