Bethel College Pilots: 13
NCCAA Championship
Game Summary
The Bethel College men‘s golf team finished a disappointing 13th out of 18 teams at the NCCAA National Golf Tournament, held October 12—13 at the Hombre Golf Club in Panama City Beach, Florida.
Bethel struggled out of the gate on day one, shooting a team score of 319. Freshman Brady Klotz led the way for Bethel with a score of 76. Round two showed signs of life for the young Pilot squad but extended play into darkness brought disaster for Bethel as they stumbled late and finished with a score of 316.
The final round was a carbon copy of round two... with 4 holes left in the round, Bethel stood at just 12 over par as a team but folded in the closing holes and finished their final four holes another 16 over par to finish at 318.
Brady Klotz finished a great fall freshmen season with his third straight 76 to finish at 228 for the tournament and only three stokes out of the All—American team.
Junior Eric Carnacchi earned a spot on the Academic All—American team at Sunday evening’s banquet. The highlight of the night was when the Pilots and the other participating teams had an opportunity to eat and spend time with residents of the Panama City Rescue Mission, In addition to sharing a night at the banquet, the rescue mission residents also came out to cheer on their “adopted teams‘ during the final round.
“Although this was a tough finish for us, I am proud of this team,” said head coach Chris Hess. “We are a young team that is going to improve with experience, consistency and confidence. Brady Klotz had a great tournament and has proven that he will be a force for years to come for the Pilots. Greggy Lebold had an outstanding fall season and others like Jon Enfield, Eric Carnacchi, Mike Wilson, Spencer Pannabecker and Mike Stutz have shown moments of greatness that are very promising for the future. We‘ll work hard over the winter and come back ready to battle in the spring.“
