Men's Golf Receives Bid For NAIA National Tournament
It has been announced that Bethel College will serve as the host institution for the 56th Annual NAIA Men's Golf National Championship which will be contested May 22-25 at Indiana National Golf Club in Plymouth, Indiana. As the host institution, the Pilots will receive and automatic bid to the tournament.
“We are extremely gratified to have been chosen as the host institution for the NAIA Men’s Golf National Championship," said Bethel Director of Athletics Mark Lantz. "Hosting the women’s National Championship the last two years, and the great performance by our athletic staff and student-athletes in helping run that event, certainly was one of the primary reasons we were awarded this opportunity. Once again, we are committed to excellence as we host another NAIA national event.”
It will be the first appearance at the National Championships for the Pilots as they come off their finest season in school history. This past fall, they compiled an overall record of 82-7 while winning five of eight tournaments, including an MCC Championship. The Pilots are currently ranked #21 in the latest NAIA national poll.
"This is an exciting announcement and event for our team," said head coach Christopher Hess. "We have had a lot of success on the golf course recently and we are anxious to compete with the best teams in the nation. Most of our team's roster is made up of young men from our local area, so a national championship here in our community is truly a special opportunity."
"I would like to thank Indiana Nationals and Swan Lake Resort for hosting this great event and allowing us to be a part of this championship," added Hess. "We will be working hard to make Bethel College and all of Michiana proud of the Pilots."
