Antonio Fernández is a 2005 Bethel graduate and this is his second year as Head Coach for the Junior Varsity team at Bethel, also known as the Commanders. Originally from Puebla, Mexico, Fernández was recruited to play for Bethel and had four very successful years for Pilots soccer team. Throughout Fernández's soccer career at Bethel he was regional champion in 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004, made four NAIA National Championship appearances, won the MCC conference four years, and received the NAIA Champion of Character Award in 2004.
Before enrolling as a Pilot, Fernández played for Puebla Football Club and represented México in two international tournaments as part of U-15 and U-19 teams. As a player for Instituto Oriente de Puebla, his team won the national championship in 2000 which is one of the highest honors among Mexican high schools.
Fernández began his coaching career in 2005 as one of the coaches for several soccer camps in the Michiana area. He was also a coach for the Jr. Irish Soccer Club in 2008. Fernández currently resides in Mishawaka with his wife Brittney.
