Box Score

Final:

Bethel College Pilots: 4
Grace College: 5

Game Summary

The Bethel College men’s tennis team opened MCC play on Thursday afternoon hosting Grace College and dropped a tough 5—4 decision to the Lancers. After Grace took the match at number one doubles, the Pilots responded, thanks to the number three doubles team of Rosten Hamman and Joe Rallo who won their match 8—4. However, the Lancers claimed a crucial 9—8 victory at the number two doubles spot to assume a 2—1 lead heading into singles.

After wins at numbers one and two singles, Grace held a commanding 4—1 advantage over the Pilots. But Bethel stormed back, getting wins from Alex Tsikouris at number three, Joe Rallo at number five, and Rosten Hamman at number six to even the score at 4 apiece. However, the Lancers prevailed in a hard—fought three set match at number four singles to win the team match.

“This was a tough loss for our guys today,” stated Bethel coach, John Natali. “But we told the team afterwards that we’ve been on the winning side of many of these types of matches in the past and things don’t always turn out the way you hope. Still, we played some really good tennis throughout the day and we give Grace credit for playing well today.”

The Bethel men (0—2, 0—1 MCC) will be back in action on Tuesday, September 8th when they will host Huntington University at 1:00pm on the courts at Baker Park.
