Men's Tennis Falls to Indiana Wesleyan
Game Summary
The Bethel College men’s and women’s tennis teams hosted the Indiana Wesleyan University Wildcats on Saturday afternoon in an MCC match—up. In the men’s competition, it was IWU prevailing by the score of 7—2 while the IWU women defeated the Lady Pilots by the score of 9—0. The losses leave the Bethel men at 1—7 for the season (0—5 MCC), and the Bethel ladies drop to 5—4 for the year (2—4 MCC).
The men’s match began with doubles play where the visiting Wildcats swept all three matches, but not without a fight. At number one, Bethel’s Stephen Ward and Alex Tsikouris battled but fell 8—6. Meanwhile, at number three, Joe Rallo and Rosten Hamman gave their opponents all they could handle before falling by the same score of 8—6. In singles action, Ward and Tsikouris won at numbers two and three respectively to draw the Pilots to within 3—2 before IWU pulled out some tight matches to end the team contest.
“Our guys continue to play excellent tennis against some very good teams,” stated Bethel Coach John Natali. “Today, they took their games to another level by challenging the conference’s top team. Stephen and Alex were just awesome in winning their singles matches and nearly pulling out their doubles match. Joe Rallo lost his match at number five in a third set tiebreaker and Nathan Baker dropped a second set tiebreaker as well at number one. So, looking at the results, we came within a few points of toppling the Wildcats today.”
The Bethel men and women will return to action on Tuesday, September 29th when they will travel to Marian University to play the Knights beginning at 1:00pm in Indianapolis.
