Jeff Welsh begins his second year as the Bethel College Sports Information Director and his sixth year overall in the athletic department.
Welsh, a native of Mishawaka, Ind., took over the role of Sports Information Director in 2008 after serving as an Assistant Softball coach for the previous four seasons. Prior to coming to Bethel, Welsh was a Volunteer Assistant Softball Coach at Saint Mary’s College for one season.
Welsh earned his bachelor’s degree from Indiana University in December of 1997, having majored in Marketing and Business Management. After serving as an Intern at The College Football Hall of Fame, Welsh became an Account Executive with the Chicago White Sox.
During his four seasons with the White Sox, Jeff was responsible for promotional events such as “Boy Scout Night” and “Youth Football Day” at the ballpark. Welsh was also responsible for developing relationships with a variety of corporate clients to increase season and group ticket revenue.
The desire to move closer to family led Welsh to leave Chicago and return to the Michiana area to begin a successful eight-year career in pharmaceutical and medical sales. During his sales career, Welsh began assisting his wife and Head Softball Coach, Anna Welsh with her successful softball program.
Welsh’s coaching accolades include being a member of the 2004 MIAA Coaching Staff of the Year and the 2007 and 2008 NFCA Great Lakes Coaching Staff of the Year. The 2009 Pilots’ softball team had a record setting 52-7 season earning them a third consecutive trip to the NAIA National Tournament.
While he continues his coaching career, Welsh is excited to help continue the development of the Bethel College Sports Information Office. Among his responsibilities, Welsh will be in charge of media relations for all 16 sports as well as writing releases, compiling statistics, website maintenance, and assisting in the production of media guides.
Welsh and his wife, Anna, reside in Osceola, Ind. with their two children Izabelle and Elijah.
